Solo Exhibition “MOELYONO RESISTEN”

28 October – 25 November 2026

Solo Exhibition “MOELYONO RESISTEN”

Curated by Adi Wicaksono, “MOELYONO RESISTEN” explores how art can become a way to understand social issues, share stories, and bring communities together. For more than four decades, Indonesian artist Moelyono has developed a practice rooted in Seni Rupa Penyadaran, an approach that connects art with education and social awareness, particularly among marginalized communities. The title Resisten retains the Indonesian term for resistance, evoking the capacity to endure, refuse, and challenge various forms of pressure.

Through installations, paintings, and drawings, the exhibition brings together stories of people defending their land, preserving their environment, and confronting difficult chapters of collective memory. From the social struggles explored through traditional ludruk theatre to symbols of resistance from Indigenous communities in Papua, the works reveal how art can emerge from everyday life and the experiences of those often left unheard.

The exhibition invites visitors to look beyond art as an object and consider how creative practices can give voice to communities, keep their stories alive, and open up possibilities for change.
